Would using an external mic be better than a built-in mic?

External Mics don't pick up Back ground noise as bad as internal.... I've tried both and I always seem to get a clearer recording from external.... also the little humming noise in the background of recordings.. (all have it) its not as bad with USB externals as with the jack mics (I think thats one thing they are called) and internal mics... I could be wrong tho but this is what I got from my experiences)

Re: ----MICS----
I used to use my phone recorder, Nokia XpressMusic. But then it was gone/stolen last month, so now I record with my dad's Nokia, which is fortunately almost the same type and physical model and recording quality.
Bad thing is, when I want to record, I must wait for his arrival from work *ORZORZORZ*
I'm targeting Audio Technica AT2020 which cost around 120 US$, and still saving.
But I'm still 60-70% to it, so I don't really know when will I get my hands on it, especially considering it's just a few months to my DEADLY exam months (Try Out Exams, National Exam, University Entrance Exams.. *sulks*)
